Dr C.D.B Amoah was Head of the Department from 1984 to 1995. The then Head of Surgery coordinated the affairs of the Department between 1995 and 1997 because there was no Otorhinolaryngologist. The first Accreditation visit to the Department by the West African College of Surgeons was in 2004, where partial Accreditation was granted the Department to train residents. In 2010 another partial accreditation was given which expired in 2012. The Department has not had accreditation visit since then, due to security challenges, until 2017 when another partial accreditation was given, by both National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and West African College of Surgeons.
