Preparing for your visit

Preparing for your visit

Our staff extend a warm welcome to you and hope that your stay with us will be as comfortable as possible. This may be the first time you have had to come into hospital and you will have lots of questions about what to expect.

What to bring with you into hospital

Dressing gown

Toothbrush & Toothpaste

Denture cleaner

Two face flannels

Paper tissues

Moist hand wipes

It is possible for the ward to provide help with toiletries if you are unable to bring them in for yourself. They are also available from Shops within the premises.

If you use or need the following

Shaving equipment

Walking stick

Hearing aid

You may like to bring

Books and magazines

Writing materials

For gynaecology patients please bring

Sanitary towels (not panty liners)

Supply of large knickers (not thongs)

It is very important that you bring all of your medicines with you when you come into hospital. Please give them to the nursing staff as they need to know exactly what medication you are taking.

If you have any questions about your medicines, or you want to know more about them, please let the nurse looking after you know and they will get in touch with the pharmacist.

Personal belongings and valuables

We cannot accept liability for the loss or damage to valuables (for example money or jewellery). When you come into hospital please ask a relative or friend to take home any belongings that you will not need during your hospital stay.

Please do not bring valuables or large sums of money into hospital with you. If it is unavoidable please inform the nurse admitting you so that details can be recorded and the items can be kept for you.

Please take special care of spectacles, hearing aids and dentures as these can easily be lost on a busy ward.

Mobile phones and two way radios

Please switch off, or turn off the ring tone on your mobile phones before entering the wards.

Use of mobile phones to take photographs or record images is forbidden and could result in you being prosecuted for breaching patient confidentiality.

We also ask people not to use phones in patients’ areas because the noise can be disturbing and people do need peace and quiet. Please be aware you cannot charge your phone in the hospital.

If a patient is bed bound and needs to use a mobile phone, please speak to the nurse. Arrangements can be made to close the curtain around the bed to help ensure the privacy of other patients during the call.
