RE- UMTH APOLOGIZES TO COVID-19 PATIENT WHO REPORTEDLY FLED AFTER TESTING POSITIVE REJOINDER

The Management of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital has noted a misleading news report “U.M.T.H. Apologizes to COVID-19 patient who reportedly fled, after testing positive”, authored by one Annie Nwosu, and published in the DAILY POST of 28th April 2020.

In the said report it was claimed that the “officials of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) have tendered an apology to the 42-year old female COVID-19 patient declared on the run, NAN reports”.

We wish to clarify that, while the Hospital does not have any record of a fleeing COVID - 19 - Tested - positive- patient in its facility, it had never declared that any patient had fled its facility, as claimed by the report. Therefore, the claim that officials of the Hospital had tendered an apology to such a patient is not only baseless but also totally false, fake and maliciously published to malign the UMTH Management and its staff who are putting their lives on the line to serve humanity particularly the people of the State in these challenging times.

UMTH Management therefore, calls on the author and, indeed, the publisher to immediately retract this false and misleading news report and apologize to the Hospital
